Two questions everyone asks…

“Who like me have you worked with?” and “What do you know?”

I'm not sure at what point I began to realize I'd been transitioning into the place of: I've done stuff, experienced things, and learned lessons that can be helpful to others. Yet, here’s where I find myself nearly 30 years into my professional career: I’ve led operations and multi-million dollar projects for a Fortune 100 company, I’ve been the CEO of a firm operating as a small business, led dozens of projects in a consulting role, and now work for myself. This mix gives me great empathy for executives navigating the challenges of organizational leadership.

As for that first question, almost without exception, companies I’ve come in contact with are convinced they’re unique to which I’d say, “Yes, you are” and “No, you’re not”. One of my mentors once shared with me that every organization has 5 Fundamentals of Commerce: People, Financials, Process, Machine, and Material. So while, yes, context absolutely matters, when it comes down to it, we all have some version of these fundamentals, which enables me to know where to look and what questions to ask to drive a “right stuff” focus for my clients.

I believe….

that when we bring our best thoughts together, we contribute to each other in ways that bring results that are otherwise unimaginable. The issues are clearer, the questions more challenging, the actions more committed and the results more sustained. Smart business leaders are capable of a certain measure success on their own, but why would anyone choose to run their business the hard way?
