Clarity of Chicken Salad & “Line 46”

In case you missed it, USFL running back De’Veon Smith was cut from his roster over the weekend for preferring pizza to chicken salad. (full article)

In what would appear to some as a publicity stunt, all of a sudden we’re trying to discern the level of disrespect shown by making a choice 99% of us would probably make. Yet, Coach Kirby Wilson is on the record that line 46 of the team handbook clearly covers such a violation.

Only a select few people will know what really happened and what the real motivation is. But as bizarre as this story seems to many of us, it’s a good reminder of the importance of clarity; clarity of expectations, clarity of our communication - of what we express and what we hear, clarity of what we provide and the clarity at times we must seek.

This isn’t about pizza or chicken salad. At least it’s not to De’Veon Smith. And it won’t be for us either, in whatever context we encounter where clarity matters.
